From a nine-day scramble to an eleven-hour pipeline.

The challenge

Every case that reached Meridian's molecular tumor board took a small village to prepare. Somatic variants came out of one caller, germline findings from another, expression and fusions from a third, and a coordinator stitched the evidence into slides by hand. The round trip averaged nine working days — and because the evidence lived in five places, nothing was reproducible and very little was auditable.

As referral volume climbed, the seams started to show. Borderline calls slipped. A clinically relevant fusion had been silently dropped by a legacy RNA step for the better part of two years before anyone noticed.

The approach

Meridian consolidated the entire workflow onto BeamMedic. A single BeamScan run now ingests WES, RNA-seq and ctDNA for each patient; OmniFusion overlays the layers so expression can corroborate a DNA variant and ctDNA can track burden over time.

• One reproducible, version-pinned pipeline replaced five hand-run tools.
• Tumor-board reports auto-draft from a template, each claim cited to ClinGen and the literature.
• A two-reviewer co-sign step and an immutable audit log made every decision defensible.

The results

Within a quarter, preparation time for a molecular tumor board fell from nine days to eleven hours, and the board more than doubled the number of cases it could review each week. Because everything runs on one governed rail, 100% of actions are now logged and reproducible — and the evenings spent assembling slide decks are gone.
