A trial-ready biomarker in a single quarter.
Polaris Genomics' discovery team was stuck in notebook purgatory. With BeamMedic's biomarker engine, they defined and validated a response signature six times faster — and could actually reproduce it.
The challenge
Polaris had a beautiful multi-omic cohort — whole-exome, bulk and single-cell RNA, and proteomics on hundreds of responders and non-responders — and almost no way to use it efficiently. Biomarker discovery lived in a sprawl of personal notebooks. A single iteration took weeks, and reproducing a colleague's result was a project in itself.
For a signature that might one day gate a clinical trial, that wasn't just slow. It was a regulatory liability waiting to happen.
The approach
The team moved the whole cohort into BeamMedic's Biomarker Discovery module. Multi-omic features were harmonized automatically; built-in statistics, survival models and nested cross-validation replaced the hand-rolled notebooks; and every experiment was versioned, so any result could be reproduced with one click.
- Genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic features fused into one model space.
- Nested cross-validation and a locked held-out set guarded against overfitting.
- Every run versioned and reproducible — an audit trail fit for a regulator.
"We went from 'it works on my laptop' to a locked, reproducible signature with an audit trail. That's the difference between a slide and a submission."
The results
The discovery cycle accelerated roughly six-fold. Within one quarter the team had a defined, locked response signature that held an AUC of 0.91 on a never-seen validation set — robust enough to anchor companion-diagnostic conversations and design the next trial cohort with confidence.
- A reproducible signature, not a one-off notebook result.
- Full lineage from raw cohort to final model, ready for regulatory review.
